A friend I miss
By Frann Leach
I had a best friend once. We met at a company called Executrade in the 1980s. I was busy teaching all the new staff how to use WordStar - which I had set up with a lot of function keys. She was the only one who understood first time. Her name was Maggie - or that's what I knew her as. We became very close friends, and at one time she even rented a room in my house. We used to go out drinking vino - disgusting amounts of the stuff! But we never got as drunk as some of the people you see now. We wobbled a lot, but that was about it. Basically, we held each other up. Over the years we knew each other, we both had our romantic ups and downs. Poor Maggie ended up with an alcoholic partner, and used to have Tupperware parties to try and make a bit extra to make ends meet. I would go along and try to be helpful, maybe buy a few bits (but I was pretty much poverty stricken at that time, as I had a partner with tastes just as expensive, though not so socially acceptable). Eventually, she managed to get rid of the boozer. We "encouraged" him to go by holding a celebration party to which a couple of dozen bikers were invited with instructions to look menacing if he decided to stay. Seemed to do the trick, lol. By the time my son Allan reached the age of eight, I was a single parent, and his dad was living in Kent. So, as I had heard that "boys need their dads" and there was no other way to arrange it, I upped sticks and moved down there. But that meant I lost touch with my best friend. Since then, I've moved to Edinburgh. And I found her site online, and wrote to her. But I never got an answer. Maybe she thought it was spam or something. Or maybe I've done something terrible... but I don't know what that might be. Anyway, if you're reading this and you know a Reiki Master called Fiona McCallion (that's her real name), then maybe you could ask her to get in touch. I miss her. |

It's sad how people grow away from each other or lose touch all together. I hope that Maggie gets in touch with you.

Thanks for your kind words. I hope so too, though it doesn't seem likely.
